Well, it’s that time of year again. While Marc Jacobs, Thakoon and Whitney Port are living it up in NYC, showing their latest fashion lines for Spring 2014, I’m sitting in my apartment, watching live from YouTube wondering when it will be my turn to be amongst them.
Anyway, this years New York Fashion Week was pretty uneventful. In fact, the streakers outside the theatre were probably the most exciting part of the week. Karl Lagerfield didn’t call anyone ugly or fat, Anna Wintour didn’t have to kick anyone out of her seat and not one celebrity made an idiot of themselves. Quite disappointing, actually.
However, designer on the rise, Thakoon, did make a good first impression at his show on September 9, 2013. His soft colors and creative use of pearls was perfect for his spring line, which features a sheer rain jacket and a newer twist on the aztec prints fashionistas have been so used to seeing over the past few seasons.
Not only did he put on a killer show, he also teamed up with Danny Bowien to create a post runway feast for his guests. Thakoon did this in order to set him apart from so many of the other designers that were being featured with him through out the week. The designer said he wanted to do something creative that matched his line. The meal included various tastes from the Philippine culture, which is what he grew up on. It was a total hit.
Now bad for a newbie. Seems like the new kid on the block, did well.
